The inner mindscapes featured in West Australian artist Robina Smith’s paintings portray the surreal and quirky nature of modern life, highlighting the influence of our psychological moods and emotions on our personal and interpersonal experience. Robina uses natural and urban forms, from lively capsicums to shimmering bubble trees, moonlit poppies to vibrant streetscapes as features in her artwork.

Her paintings seek  to capture the “shadow” aspect of modern life, providing a guide and an inspiration and an antidote for the mass tedium, excitement and lunacy of everyday life.Robina completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at Curtin University of Technology in 1993,and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from Edith Cowan University in 1995.

In addition, Robina is an experienced art teacher, having completed a Diploma of Education in 1997 and a CELTA English Language Teaching Certificate in 2000, she has taught art in a number of West Australian schools.

Robina currently uses art within the corporate sector, having worked with BankWest, the West Coast Eagles Football Club and Life Long Learning Pty Ltd and more recently with HWE Mining and BHP Billiton.

Robina is also a member of Artsource and regularly receives private commissions.
